WWE’s poor booking has made Liv Morgan look like a weak Smackdown Women’s Champion. There is a way to improve Liv for her rematch with Ronda Rousey.

The path wwe has booked Smackdown Women’s Champion Liv Morgan is a problem that can be solved. At SummerSlam, Morgan defeated Ronda Rousey in a controversial finish; Liv hit Rousey’s arm, but the ref didn’t see it and counted Ronda’s shoulders to the mat for the pin. Morgan retained the Smackdown Women’s Championship, causing Rousey to attack her and the referee to turn heel after the match. Still, Liv’s win may have done more harm than good to her title.

The incredibly popular Liv Morgan won the Money in the Bank ladder match in early July and cashed in on Ronda Rousey to win the Smackdown Women’s Title on the same night. It was a much-anticipated success for Morgan, who has emerged as an underdog babyface for two years, but crushing losses to then-RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch meant Liv was stripped of the championship. Since winning the title, Morgan has been in a perpetual state of celebration and is thoroughly enjoying finally standing on top of the mountain in the WWE Women’s Division. Liv also enjoyed the fact that beating Ronda at Money in the Bank meant she became only the third woman to pin Rousey in WWE after Lynch and Charlotte Flair. Morgan’s win at SummerSlam now makes her the only woman in WWE to pin Ronda Rousey twice. However, the cloud of these achievements is that both victories are coincidences.

As popular as a champion like Liv Morgan is, she hasn’t been booked to be on the same level as Ronda Rousey, who is one of WWE’s main eventers. Liv cashed MITB to a weakened Rousey who was exhausted from a grueling match against Natalya at Money in the Bank. At SummerSlam, their short title match was completely dominated by Rousey, who destroyed Liv’s left arm en route to making her tap out (which the referee didn’t see). Morgan outlasted Ronda and smartly retained the title, but the end result is that Ronda looked like the stronger and more deserving competitor to go down while Liv looked like she got lucky. This is a poor position for a babyface champion, and Morgan deserves better. Booking Liv as an “eternal underdog” is a disservice to her. This remnant of the previous WWE Creative under the now gone Vince McMahon makes Liv look weak. The new WWE creative regime led by Triple H needs to do better for Liv Morgan and establish her as a strong and worthy Smackdown Women’s Champion.

Rocky III The booking can fix Liv Morgan’s Smackdown Women’s Championship reign

Ronda Rousey Liv Morgan Summerslam

In Rocky III, Mickey (Burgess Meredith) oversaw Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) making 10 successful defenses of the World Heavyweight Championship. Rocky was later crushed to learn that the challengers were handpicked, but Mickey did it to protect Rocky and extend his career. The same basic idea should be applied to Liv Morgan to further her status as Smackdown Women’s Champion. With Ronda Rousey currently suspended, Liv should be booked to defend the title against other Smackdown heels like Sonya Deville, Shotzi, Xia Li and Natalya, who Morgan has beaten before. Morgan needs convincing wins as champion to boost her credibility leading up to her inevitable rematch with Rousey. Liv needs to establish herself as a strong champion in these next few crucial weeks for it to be believable that she can go toe-to-toe with “The Baddest Woman on Earth.”

Not giving Liv title defenses where she convincingly beats other top contenders on Smackdown will cut her championship reign at the knees. Morgan is already adored by fans who have followed her on her journey, but the Smackdown Women’s Championship isn’t enough, and fans can see through WWE’s booking of Liv as a weak champion who it’s happening with luck If Liv is really going to be the best babyface on Smackdown, she needs to get some wins as champion where she looks dominant. That way, even if Liv drops the title back to Rousey, a more even contest would still elevate Morgan in the eyes of the fans and improve her stature in the long run. It’s unclear how long Ronda Rousey will be suspended, so these next few weeks are crucial wwe to make it right for Liv Morgan and strengthen her Smackdown Women’s Championship reign.
