LG’s new TONE Free headphones have Dolby head tracking and ANC
LG has announced a handful of new headphones in its TONE Free line, and they bring some interesting new features along with other familiar ones.
LG has announced new headphones in its TONE Free line, and they come with some cool features that aren’t available in their other headphones. LG made its foray into the headphone market in 2019 with the LG TONE+ Free headphones. However, to stand out from the crowd of headphones, it had to incorporate some interesting features into its products.
Among them is the UVnano charging case with a powerful UV LED that it claims can kill up to 99.9 percent of bacteria. It also fits your headphones with medical-grade silicone ear gels that prevent irritation. In addition, some LG headphones can work with devices without Bluetooth connectivity thanks to a technology called Plug & Wireless.
LG’s new TONE Free headphones for 2022 come in four models: TONE Free T90, TONE Free T60, TONE Free Fit TF7 and TONE Free Fit TF8. All four include Meridian Sound, medical-grade silicone ear gels, LG’s UVnano charging case, which sterilizes the headphones with UV light, and support for quick charging. However, they target different demographics.
LG headphones can be sterilized
The T90 is the most premium model and it shows in its features. According to LG, the headphones, which have 11mm dynamic, “they are the world’s first wireless headphones that support Dolby Atmos Head Tracking technology across all content and devices.“It also claims to be the first headset to include a Dolby-made audio visualizer designed explicitly for the headset. The audio visualizer is said to expand spatial dimensionality. Additionally, the headset supports Snapdragon Sound; cancel · active noise reduction with a real – Time ANC Optimizer that adjusts ANC based on the actual position of the headphones in the user’s ears, and is IPX4 rated for water resistance.
They also have a voice pickup unit (VPU) that detects voices when having a conversation. Connecting the headphones to a device should be quite easy, as there is support for Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. LG’s new headphones also support Bluetooth Multipoint and audio switching on compatible LG devices. The T90’s battery life is nine hours (20 hours with the charging case) with ANC off, and the charging case supports wired charging via a USB-C port and wireless charging. The T60 has a similar design to the T90, but lacks Dolby Head Tracking, Real-Time ANC Optimizer, a VPU, and loses wireless charging. The LG TONE Free T90 is priced at $229. LG has yet to reveal the TONE Free T60, but it should cost less as it lacks some features. The TONE Free Fit TF7 and TF8 are designed for exercise, which shows in their design. Unlike the T90 and T60, these two pairs have wings that LG has dubbed SwivelGrip, and they keep the headphones in place during intense workouts. In addition, the TF7 and TF8 have a higher IP67 dust and water resistance rating because of how they are designed. Both earbuds have a battery life of up to 10 hours with ANC off and up to 30 hours total with the charging case.
One clear difference between the TF8 and TF7 is their support for wireless charging and LG’s Plug, which allows owners to use the headphones with devices that don’t have Bluetooth support. All they have to do is connect the headphone case to the device’s AUX port using a USB-C to 3.5mm cable and their headphones will work wirelessly. This feature is also available on the T90. The TONE Free Fit TF8 is priced at $199, but the price of the TF8 has not yet been revealed. However, LG says all four headsets will be available worldwide by the end of August.
