GOP candidate Cory Mills, running for an open Florida House seat, says his community is hurting because of inflation

Republican congressional candidate Cory Mills spent a decade overseas in both military and diplomatic roles, but told Fox News Digital in a recent interview that he’s running for office because he believes his community in Central Florida needs someone at the local level to avoid government overreach. and the inflationary economy.

Mills, who won the Republican nomination Tuesday for the Sanford-area House seat that is retiring Jan. 6, select committee member Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., explained how through d ‘about 100,000 knocks on the door has heard many stories of struggle.

“We listened to the people and their concerns and the things that affect them,” Mills told Fox News Digital of the district that the Cook Political Report considers “Even,” or swing.

Mills spoke of a resident named Don who explained his family’s financial pinch amid record inflation, describing a recent difficult decision he had to make.

“He brought up he has two kids, and the other day one of his kids got hurt while he was in the yard — he hurt his leg,” Mills recalled, adding that Don took the boy to the local clinic, but her family budget didn’t have enough resources for emergency medical care, leaving her with no choice.

“Now don’t I fill the tank completely or am I trying to stretch the money for our food a little more?” Mills recalled. “These are real issues facing every American, specifically here in our district.”

Mills said affordability in many aspects of life has become a challenge for her area, which is on the outskirts of growing metro Orlando.

While he’s glad to see Florida transplants avoid the liberal politics of the Northeast, Mills said the influx is straining local resources and driving up real estate prices.

“A lot of the national issues have just spilled over into the communities, and that really affects every one of us here in District 7,” he added.

Mills said he is prepared to work with a divided legislature, in the event the House goes to the GOP, but the Senate remains Democratic.

“As a businessman, one of the things I’ve had great experience in is working with others: being able to negotiate on terms that don’t compromise our values, our principles and the things we stand for,” he said.

“For those on the left who aren’t actually trying to undermine our Constitution, for those on the left who aren’t actually [forwarding] an America Last agenda, I don’t think that’s a difficulty.”

However, he said he draws a line with Democrats who he says are pushing a “socialist-Marxist agenda” — calling himself a “10th Amendment man.”

The amendment reserves to the states those rights not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution. In that regard, Mills praised the leadership of the state of Florida, calling Gov. Ron DeSantis “not only the governor of Florida, but the governor of the United States,” and said he strongly believes Tallahassee took the right tact when avoided federal coronavirus restrictions; opting for regulation at the state level.

Although Democratic political strategist Karen Green won that party’s nomination amid Murphy’s retirement, Mills said the outgoing lawmaker’s Jan. 6 caucus is still notable.

“I think [the panel] he definitely plays in the district and across America. We’ve seen political persecution: We’ve seen a continuation of this carryover of the “J-6” Deselection Committee ethos when we look at President Donald Trump’s violation of the Fourth Amendment with the raid on Mar-a-Lago, where it really was an illegal and unlawful search and seizure,” Mills commented.
