An unknown number of people are trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building in Kano, Nigeria.
According to reports, the two-storey building is a mobile phone market on Beirut Road.
“Rescue operations have commenced by officials of the Kano State Fire Service, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police,” reports TVC News.
Witnesses at the scene say people trapped inside cannot be rescued because no equipment is available to do so.

An excavator is headed to the scene. So far, three people have been pulled from the rubble and taken to hospital, Daily Trust reports.

Women and children are believed to still be inside the building.
One of the volunteers involved in the rescue operation told the Daily Trust Concerns about cracks in the building were previously raised with the builders.
