The Winchesters star Meg Donnelly reveals supernaturalJensen Ackles was on set and offered advice on certain scenes in the series. The CW’s upcoming show is a prequel to the popular dark fantasy series that concluded in 2020. The Winchesters will be released on October 11, 2022.
While Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean’s (Ackles) battle against the hidden and dark forces of the world ended in 2020 after 15 years, The Winchesters promises to bring fans into the world of supernatural. The series will follow the parents of demon-hunting siblings John Winchester (Drake Rodger) and Mary Campbell (Donnelly) long before Sam and Dean were born, as the pair fall in love while facing their own demonic enemies. And according to Donnelly, Ackles offered plenty of advice on how the actor should approach many moments in the show.
In an exclusive interview with Screen RantDonnelly reveals that Ackles was present for the production of The Winchesterthe pilot episode of, where he would offer guidance during filming. She explains that Ackles would help guide her through how she should approach many small moments, such as how she should convincingly act a lock-picking scene. He also gave his knowledge supernatural tradition, explaining the background of certain terminology and monsters to the cast throughout the production. Check out Donnelly’s recollection below:
In the pilot, Jensen was on set every day and has lots of advice. I just remember the first day, I was picking a lock to get into a door somewhere, and he said, “Oh, we have to do it like this to make it more convincing. Trust me, I’ve been doing this for one time”. And I was like, “Oh, great.” So it was little things like that.
Drake is literally a foot taller than me and so [Jensen] he was like, “When I did scenes with Jared I never slouched at the hip because then you’re even shorter. So just make sure you’re standing because I learned the hard way.” I said, “Oh!” Just like little things like that. Or he would tell us details in the show, because there are easter eggs all the time. He was just telling us about different monsters; different hunter terms. It’s very useful to have him on set.
Both Donnelly and Rodger have praised Ackles’ involvement in the series. In addition to reprising his role as Dean, he also serves as an executive producer on the show alongside his wife Danneel, allowing him to influence the direction of the show and share his knowledge of the universe with new cast members .
