10 New Holiday Movies to Watch This Year
Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming to an end Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. The special is notable for being the MCU’s first Christmas special, but between November and December there will be a number of new and exciting holiday movies that fans of the season should be on the lookout for.
While it’s easy to turn to the same family favorites year after year, it’s always nice to add a couple of new movies to your holiday watch list. From fun films featuring comedy legends to dark holiday-themed horror films that are best for after the kids go to bed, here’s what to watch this holiday season and the important release dates that must be taken into account.
Father Christmas – November 16

Father Christmas is a beloved holiday classic starring Tim Allen as the titular Santa Claus. The story begins when Santa falls off the roof and dies. Tim Allen’s character, Scott Calvin, dons the suit and becomes the next Santa Claus. The film spawned three sequels detailing Scott’s love of being Santa, as well as the struggles that come with it.
This year, a new entry in the franchise will launch on Disney+ called The Santa Clauses, which is a mini-series. This time, Scott is retiring and looking for a replacement. Trailers for the new series detail some of Scott’s retired life before he has to don the red suit again to save Christmas and the elves from extinction.

Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell star in a new story A Christmas he called animated. Each Christmas Eve, the ghosts choose a “scrooge” to embark on a journey similar to the original story. This year, they cast Clint Briggs, played by Ryan Reynolds, but things don’t go as planned.
This live-action movie musical wants to tell the story of ghosts instead of Scrooge and will focus on the Ghost of Christmas Present played by Will Ferrell. Credited as Present, the trailer details a love story between Ferrall’s character and Octavia Spencer’s Kimberly. He certainly seems like the fresh take type A Christmas needs.
A Christmas story Christmas – 17 November

Legacy sequels are becoming more and more common, and now Peter Billingsley is getting in on the action with A Christmas story Christmas. Ralphie, from the 1983 classic A Christmas Story, Everything is grown up and now he is married with children, so he returns to his childhood home to try to give his children a magical Christmas. There, he meets up with his old friends and struggles to provide the same magical Christmas that his father gave him as a child.
A Christmas story it’s a classic in many homes, so much so that there are 24-hour long movie marathons on Christmas Day. It will be hard to top the cult classic status of the original film, but the story was created by Billingsley himself and directed by Clay Kaytis who directed The Christmas Chroniclesanother modern Christmas movie that is sure to become a classic, so it has a good take.
Santa Camp – November 17

Saint Camp is a documentary that centers around a camp dedicated to perfecting the art of being a Santa Claus. This documentary follows the struggle of a few people trying to be Santa when society tries to tell them they don’t fit in. In the document, the camp includes its first black member and first trans member.
Documentaries aren’t always what comes to mind when looking for a feel-good holiday movie, but Christmas documentaries are something special. This is a story about what it means to be a Santa and how one person can affect an entire community. It has all the characteristics of a Christmas classic.
Slumberland – November 18

Slumberland is a remake of Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland, of sorts, and follows a young girl as she travels to Slumberland. He teams up with Jason Momoa’s Flip in hopes that they can discover a magical artifact that will grant him a wish to return to his father.
Many fantasy films can be considered holiday movies, and for whatever reason, audiences associate fantasy epics with the holiday season, which is why so many are released around November or December. Slumberland could be the new favorite fantasy movie kids will forever associate with the season.
The Fabelmans – November 23

Steven Spielberg’s latest film, The Fabelmans it’s his most personal yet. Although it’s not technically about his family, it’s where he draws inspiration from. The film follows a boy who wants to be an artist like his mother, but his father wants him to pursue a more practical career.
The Fabelmans it’s clearly a passion project for Spielberg and one that seems perfect for the holiday season. It’s a time when families are looking for something to do and a new Spielberg movie is perfect. Most of Spielberg’s films are released during the holidays, so even if this one doesn’t become a new holiday classic, it’s sure to be a special memory to share this holiday season.
The Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special – November 25th

Before the Guardians return in 2023 for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3the public will be able to see them at Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. With Gamora dead and gone, Peter is feeling very down, so his fellow Guardians want to find a way to help lift his spirits. Drax and Mantis decide to return to Earth and pick up Kevin Bacon, who they believe is a great warrior.
The first Marvel special was a huge hit during the Halloween season. An MCU holiday special is a novel idea and one that has the potential to delight audiences for years to come. The Guardians are beloved characters in the MCU and seeing Kevin Bacon enter the mix is sure to make for a great holiday watch.
Scrooge: A Christmas Carol – December 2nd

This is quite a year for adaptations A Christmas. Not only will it animated will be released, but Netflix is releasing its own adaptation. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol is actually an animated remake of the 1970s musical Scrooge, which starred Albert Finney. However, the new film seems to be making a lot of changes thanks to its animated format.
This new animated remake will also be a musical, but it is currently unknown if there will be original songs or if they will use the songs from the 1970s film. The voice cast consists of Luke Evans as Scrooge and a wide variety of actors including Jessie Buckley and Olivia Colman.
Violent night – December 2

John Wick meet Santa seems like a crazy enough idea to work. David Harbor stars as jolly old St. Nick violent night, the latest attempt to make an action Santa movie. A group of bad men are trying to rob a rich family on Christmas Eve, and Santa is caught in the middle. He decides to help since the youngest of the family is on the “nice” list.
The trailer looks like a great time for the holidays. Harbor wants to put on a good performance as this Santa since he can hold his own. This will undoubtedly become a new holiday classic and David Leitch, one of the directors of the first John Wick The movie is producing this movie, so it will surely have good action and an original plot for a Christmas movie.
Christmas Bloody Christmas – December 9

When it comes to the holidays, horror fans can sometimes be left behind. But Shudder doesn’t forget them. This year the platform is released Christmas Bloody Christmasthat sees a robotic toy store Santa go bad and start murdering the residents of a small town.
It’s not a horror movie that the whole family can enjoy, but that shouldn’t stop adults from watching it with some friends. Horror fans may not feel ready to switch to festive Christmas films, so a Christmas horror film should be essential viewing. This ridiculous concept aims to deliver the hilarious kills and over-the-top performances that only Shudder can deliver.
