One of the UK’s best-known drug lords, often referred to as Britain’s version of Pablo Escobar, has been released from prison amid fears he may return to a life of crime.

Curtis Warren, who amassed a fortune of more than $230 million through various criminal enterprises, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for trafficking marijuana in 2009 and was released Tuesday afternoon from a prison in high security, The Sun newspaper reported.

Some officials have expressed concern that Warren, 59, who was at one time Interpol’s most wanted man, could revitalize the UK crime scene once he is back on the streets.

“The last thing anyone wants is for Warren to come back and create another war on drugs in Liverpool,” a Merseyside Police officer said earlier this year.

Steps have been taken to ensure Warren, who amassed so much money at one point he boasted he could spend about $59,000 a day and not go broke, does not return to a life of crime, including a travel ban in Scotland and a ban. from WhatsApp and exchanging cryptocurrency.

Warren is rumored to have left envelopes containing around £1million in Liverpool backyards which he will dig up now that he has been released from prison.

Warren began his career as a criminal aged just 12, when he began robbing houses around Liverpool. He eventually got into the drug trade and built a massive empire that included real estate holdings in Wales, Spain and The Gambia.

Warren also owned a private yacht, a winery, gas stations, apartments and mansions throughout Europe.

Warren is responsible for some of the largest shipments of illegal drugs to reach the UK, including a shipment of 500 kilos of cocaine from Venezuela in 1991.

Warren has been imprisoned several times, including a 12-year sentence in 1997 where he ended up killing another prisoner.
