Mbappe scores twice as France reach knockout stage

Kylian Mbappe scored twice for France as the defenders set the record straight by beating Denmark to become the first team in the knockout stages of the World Cup.
The 23-year-old striker, France’s youngest goalscorer in the competition, again stole the show with second-half goals to put his side ahead.
Mbappe had earlier fired over from 12 yards and forced Kasper Schmeichel into a stop with a high shot.
But the Paris St-Germain star broke the deadlock just after the hour mark, exchanging a neat one-two with Theo Hernandez before slotting in.
Denmark equalized just seven minutes later with their first effort on goal when defender Andreas Christensen headed in at the far post after France failed to clear a corner.
Christensen, however, may have considered himself lucky to be on the pitch at the time after receiving only a yellow card on 20 minutes for dragging back Mbappe, who was looking to run clear.
France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris made a sharp save to keep out Tottenham team-mate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s early shot as Martin Braithwaite fired agonizingly into the side netting.
But with four minutes to go, Mbappé had the final say, sneaking in at the far post to convert Antoine Griezmann’s cross.
More to follow.
