Andor: Top 10 Reddit Fan Theories for Season 2
This list contains spoilers for Andor Season 1.
The spark of rebellion ignited in Ferrix Andorthe thrilling finale to Season 1, and already has fans desperate for Season 2 Rogue One: A Star Wars Story The prequel series ranks as one of the best TV shows of the year for its stellar writing by Tony Gilroy, engaging performances from the cast and stunning visuals. exciting, Andor Season 2 is already in development as filming has begun in London with hopes of arriving on Disney+ in 2024.
The wait may seem excruciating, but luckily, 2023 is shaping up to be a great year War of the galaxies with new season of The bad lot, The Mandalorianand finally, Ahsoka. As to Andor, Season 1 left fans with some burning questions while expanding the franchise’s vast reach in fascinating fashions, inspiring all kinds of theories for Season 2 and beyond. Many fans shared their thoughts and hopes on Reddit about what’s next for Cassian, Mon Mothma, and Luthen, and how this could all lead to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Luthen is a Jedi
One of the most widespread theories throughout Season 1 is that Luthen Rael, played by Stellan Skarsgård, is a former Jedi. It’s been gaining momentum since episode four, and many fans are hoping season 2 will definitively prove them right or wrong. Redditor Daksout918 supports this, writing, “with everything he said in the monologue, plus the kyber crystal and the fact that they go out of their way to show us his staff a couple of different times, I have to think he’s a fallen Jedi “.
His Kuati Signet, as he calls it, referring to the Rakata of legend history and the vast amount of Andor Easter eggs in his shop, including holocrons and a mask of a Jedi temple guard, could be proof that this theory has some validity. However, as some detractors point out, Andor it hasn’t been a show for these revelations and twists. Although it is a spy drama, full of intrigue, the characters are all who they seem, even Luthen.
He wasn’t a Jedi, but he knew some
Some viewers have modified the “Luthen is a Jedi” theory to make Luthen just someone connected to the Jedi Order instead of a former member. ElandoUK states: “Luthen is not a Jedi, but his spouse is.” This kind of development would add a lot more depth to his motivations and role in canon. It is a perspective that has only been shared so predominantly by Padmé Amidala.
Interestingly, this then suggests that the kyber crystal was theirs, a way to stay connected to their lost love, who presumably died in Order 66. This would be in line with their initiation into the rebellion , quoting, “…an equation I wrote fifteen years ago…” in his epic speech to Lonni. While not the Jedi way of taking partners, there is plenty of precedent during this era to support this idea.
The fusion of B2-K2
Another popular theory is that B2EMO will eventually become K-2SO Rogue One somehow. The new droid quickly captured the hearts of fans on Twitter, and his adoration only grew as the season progressed. While other droids such as K-2, R2-D2, and Chopper have creepy personalities, they are nothing compared to the emotional B2. Given their equal importance in their history, fans are linking B2 and K-2 together.
DoctorSteve03 thinks, “if it was revealed that K-2 contained Bee’s memories/consciousness, she would make her sacrifice in Rogue One even more poignant.” It would certainly add a lot of depth to their connection. As naysayers have pointed out, it would mean B2’s personality changes drastically, so that doesn’t seem likely. Unfortunately, in this case, it might not bodes well for B2, as Cassian states Rogue One who has lost everything in this fight.
L3-37, but in reverse
The idea of transferring memory and databanks between droids brings to mind the revolutionary L3-37 from Solo: A Star Wars Story, which ended up being integrated into the computer of the Millennium Falcon. As for the K-2SO, pezboy74 thinks it might be the opposite. They wrote: “I personally like the theory I heard that K-2SO is the AI of Luthen’s ship.”
Since Season 2 will span the previous four years Rogue One, K-2SO is sure to show up eventually, and this theory would cleverly link him to Cassian and Luthen. It would be a fun way to rearrange an existing story element and also expand on the notion of droid sentience, something pertinent in Andor thanks to B2EMO’s radical personality.
Arc of Mon Mothma
While the show is titled Andor, Mon Mothma plays the deuteragonist, and Season 1 was an incredible performance for Genevieve O’Reilly in the role. Its arc incorporates political elements, making the show much more than a spy thriller. At the end of Season 1, she has presumably thrown her husband Perrin to the wolves, blaming their financial discrepancies on his gambling, and has arranged the marriage of her teenage daughter, Leida. Season 2 will have to show her transition from the senator secretly funding the Rebellion to a major leader of the Rebel Alliance.
Redditor intrepidcaribou thinks, “they could do Mothma’s escape from Coruscant… Obviously Perrin and Leida either die or are left behind. Showing Mon Go from his comfortable life on Coruscant on the run would be interesting.” Given the time frame for season 2, this seems incredibly likely, and specifically would result from his bold public denunciation of the Emperor Palpatine for the Ghorman Massacre. That would tie rebels how the Ghost Crew helped save her.
Cassian, Mon and Luthen all together
Season 1 ends with Cassian declaring for the cause in Luthen. So much of Season 2 will likely explore their developing relationship and work style Rogue One, during which Luthen is absent, or more likely, dead. This will no doubt also encompass Cassian and Mon’s meeting, which is interesting to ponder as to how her and Luthen’s leadership styles will differ and thus affect Cassian’s actions and motivations within the Alliance rebel
Redditor rechelon theorizes: “Cassian must either help Mon escape Coruscant or help instigate the Ghorman massacre at Luthen’s request (and then transfer loyalties to Mon from Luthen as he becomes less tolerable within (the Alliance). Each of these could be three-episode arcs, showing the truly changing nature of the Rebellion, and especially how his involvement in something horrible for the greater good would lead him down the path to where find Rogue One.
Syril and Dedra’s relationship
If fans were expecting a love story Andor, they would have logically assumed that Cassian would be involved. As such, the budding connection between Syril Karn and Dedra Meero is unexpectedly fascinating and disturbing. While the performances of Kyle Soller and Denise Gough, respectively, are remarkable, the characters are utterly loathsome. Syril is downright creepy and Dedra is deeply menacing. However, the ending shows the spark of not just a rebellion, but something between them.
Dedra may be taking advantage of Syril’s devotion without returning the favor. Redditor el-cad comments: “Dedra will be on a job, but underwhelming, Syril will be an outside informant/sage doing dirty work from the books for her. Maybe Mosk would be involved as well.” This relationship would be interesting to compare to Luthen and Cassian if he becomes her personal agent in season 2, like Syril is to Dedra.
incoming tragedy
While Maarva Andor’s funeral led to a riot against the Empire and a massacre of sorts, Cassian and several of his friends made it out alive, though not unscathed. Specifically, he helped B2EMO, Bix, Brasso, Wilmon, Pegla, and Jezzi escape from Ferrix, telling them that he would meet them at Gangi Moon. Unfortunately, Gungan_Jedi has a bad feeling about this, thinking that “we could witness a tragedy with Bix, Brasso, etc.”
The sad thing is that Cassian is in a very dark place at the beginning Rogue One. He has said that he has lost everything because of the Empire. This is almost five years after where Andor left, and while the wound of losing Maarva might still be festering, this comment makes that theory, sadly, very plausible. It’s a tragedy that would shake Cassian to his core, and the loss of popular characters like B2, Bix, and Brasso would also be devastating to viewers.
Some special appearances
In Andorall roads lead to Rogue One, either explicitly or subtly. One way to do this so far has been the appearance of Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera. In season 2, the War of the galaxies The character many are looking forward to seeing is Jyn Erso, once again played by Felicity Jones. DestroyTheHuman believes that “we’ll see Luthen discover Jyn and her history, thus starting a conflict with Saw… giving Saw an ultimatum between saving Jyn or helping the rebels.” It would be great to see Saw in such a compelling situation as he is usually so strict and firm.
This might require some tweaking since she’s presumably abandoned by Saw in 5 ABY when Season 1 takes place, but she could still come into play. Either way, Season 2 will no doubt contain some reference to Jyn Erso and/or her father Galen, at least as it heads toward Rogue One.
Return to Kenari
One of the biggest Andor The questions that remain from Season 1 are still about Cassian’s mysterious backstory on his home planet of Kenari, and especially the fate of his sister. His pursuit of her was his most important story element in the first three episodes, but was overshadowed by the urgency and stakes of later arcs. However, it did lead to some wild fan theories that characters like Bix, Dedra, or Cinta could be her sister, none of which have any merit.
Interestingly, Maarva tells Cassian to forget about her and Kenari, but she seemed to know a secret that he didn’t. As such, many like Matuatay think Season 2 will delve deeper into this part of his life. They wrote: “He will be picked up again in S2 and she will find him.” That last point is pretty intriguing and could play into other developing theories that she’s already a rebel. Season 2 already has a lot on its plate, but a definitive answer about what happened to Kenari and Cassian’s sister needs to be addressed.
