Even before the novel was published, FilmNation acquired the film rights to the book in April 2018. In 2021, it was announced that Shyamalan would direct the film adaptation of the horror novel, and that Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Ben Aldridge and Jonathan Groff would star. Call the cabin follows a family of three who vacation in a remote cabin, only to be taken hostage by a group of strangers who tell them they must sacrifice a family member to prevent the apocalypse. The film will release on February 3, 2023.

Recently on Twitter, Call the cabin shared his first poster, and Tremblay points out that something is missing. In the Twitter posts of Tremblaythe author points out that neither his name nor his book appear anywhere on the poster, despite Call the cabin being a direct film adaptation of The cabin at the end of the world. Tremblay goes on to suggest that while The cabin at the end of the world will have a tie-in version of the film on February 7, the film doesn’t seem to acknowledge its source material. Cabin trick repeats an old trick

M Night Shyamalan's Old Mysterious Beach

While Call the cabin The poster appears to have diverged from Tremblay’s original novel, this isn’t the first time a Shyamalan film has downplayed its source material. In 2021, Shyamalan released the thriller oldwhich was a film adaptation of the graphic novel by Pierre Oscar Lévy and Frédérik Peeters sand castle. Despite this, old likewise dissociated itself from any association with sand castleleaving many viewers to assume that the film was an original work by Shyamalan rather than an adaptation.

Although Lévy and Peeters did not comment on the rather minimal recognition of their graphic novel when it came to oldof marketing, Tremblay certainly isn’t doing the same. Responding to a Twitter user who said he was uncomfortable with Tremblay’s lack of recognition on the poster, Tremblay responded by saying “they don’t have to be uncomfortable as they bought the rights and the book will be credited in the movie.” Tremblay acknowledges that while the rights to the adaptation were bought, and that The cabin at the end of the world will receive credit in Call the cabinstill wants credit where credit is due.

Given Tremblay’s comments, it will be interesting to see to what extent Call the cabin it sticks to the plot of its source material. It seems likely that Shyamalan’s film will depart considerably from Tremblay’s story. Call the cabin will be Tremblay’s first film adaptation of his work, and rightfully so, he’s not keeping quiet about making sure audiences know where the film’s story came from. Since Shyamalan now has a history of not giving authors much credit when adapting their books into movies, Tremblay’s vocal criticism may be key to making sure that doesn’t happen again with a film Shyamalan movie in the future. Although only one poster has been released so far, maybe in the future Call the cabin promotional materials will finally give Tremblay the recognition he deserves.
