Twitter’s website was inaccessible to many users on Monday, while others reported problems viewing photos and clicking links on the app, marking one of the most extensive service outages yet under the new owner Elon Musk.

Some users who tried to load Twitter.com or TweetDeck, a service that allows users to organize their Twitter feed into lists, received an error message: “Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint “. Other users were able to access the site (although it seemed to load slowly), but encountered the same error message when clicking on the links.

The outage-tracking site DownDetector showed more than 8,000 Twitter outage reports as of midday Monday. For users who were able to access the platform, “Twitter API” was trending as people tweeted about the issues.

“Some parts of Twitter may not work as expected right now,” the company said said in a tweet “We made an internal change that had some unintended consequences. We are working on this now and will share an update when it is fixed.”

In a separate tweet on Monday, Musk said: “This platform is so broken (sigh). It will be fixed shortly.”

Monday’s outage was Twitter’s second outage in less than a week and its third in less than a month. Last Wednesday, some Twitter users who opened their “for you” timeline were greeted with a blank screen and a message that read: “welcome to your timeline,” encouraging them to follow others users to show tweets even if they already follow them. several accounts. Other users received a “Welcome to Twitter!” message as if they had just joined the platform.

Three weeks ago, Twitter users encountered several issues with the platform, including the inability to tweet, send direct messages or follow new accounts.

Twitter has experienced a series of technical glitches since Musk took over the company and laid off more than half of its staff late last year. Users have previously reported issues with the app’s two-factor authentication tool, seeing replies listed above a tweet instead of below it, and seeing old tweets appear repeatedly in your feed or mentions.

Some former employees raised concerns that Musk’s mass layoffs could cause the platform to break up in ways big or small, after workers with knowledge of Twitter’s key systems were pushed out. But Musk has continued to cut staff in an effort to boost Twitter’s bottom line.

According to a New York Times report, the latest service outages come after Twitter laid off another 10 percent of its staff late last month, including some engineers responsible for the site’s reliability.
