WhatsApp is rolling out a long-requested new feature: message editing.

The Meta-owned messaging platform said on Tuesday that users will now be able to edit messages, as long as they are 15 minutes after they are sent. Adjusted messages will be displayed in the chat with an “edited” label, without showing the edit history.

“From correcting a simple misspelling to adding additional context to a message, we’re excited to give you more control over your chats,” WhatsApp said in a statement.

WhatsApp’s new feature follows a similar move by Apple’s iMessage last fall to allow users to edit messages up to five times within 15 minutes of sending. It appears that WhatsApp’s editing feature will only allow revision, according to a video the company posted on Twitter.

WhatsApp will now allow users to edit messages for up to fifteen minutes after they are created.

WhatsApp users can access the editing feature by long-pressing on a message. The edition has begun rolling out globally and will be available to the platform’s more than 2 billion users in the coming weeks, the company said.

In recent years, WhatsApp has implemented a number of privacy and commerce features for users and businesses operating on the app as it seeks to increase usage and compete with rivals such as Signal. In August, WhatsApp introduced the ability for users to check their messages without other people knowing they are online.
